Griha Pravesh (New House) Puja
Bless a newly built, bought or renovated home before you move in.
Satyanarayan means the Lord in the form of truth. The katha is among the most widely performed rituals in Hindu households, and it is deliberately unfussy — it can be held in a small flat or a large hall, with five guests or fifty.
It is commonly held ahead of a wedding, a house opening or the birth of a child, and equally often afterwards, as thanks.
Two occasions bring most families to this puja. The first is a hope: a new job, a first home, a car, an exam, a business, a medical procedure ahead. The second is gratitude, once that hope has been met.
Held without any particular reason — many families keep to it monthly or on a fixed tithi — it is simply a way of keeping the household settled and the year in order.
Satyanarayan katha can be held on any day, which is part of why it is so widely performed. When it marks a specific occasion, pandit ji will pick a shubh muhurat for you.
Several days in the Hindu panchang are considered auspicious by default — Purnima, Ekadashi, Sankranti and eclipse days chief among them. Purnima is the most popular choice by far, so book early if you want one.
